Can you see this painting on a wine label?

My painting "Kaleidoscope" has been chosen as one of the finalists in the Artiste facebook art label contest. The winning painting will be on the next Artiste wine label. Now the decision is a popularity contest on facebook. There are some wonderful works of art in the running but I hope you will lend me your support and vote for "Kaleidoscope." (I can totally see this painting on a wine label!) Please click here to cast your vote for "Kaleidoscope." Voting is open now through March 4th. Thanks for taking the time to vote and spread the word!

Purple Flower Completed

I'm a little late on updating the progress of this painting... okay, my blogging in general has sucked recently. But at long last here is the finished painting. As I stated in the last post about this painting, I wasn’t  happy with some of the background color and the acrylic in that area was beginning to feel a little heavy to me. So I used Daniel Smith Watercolor Ground, to cover the area on the right hand side of the painting. I am happy with the way the ground accepted fresh watercolor paint. I have since used the watercolor ground in other situations in other paintings and I can recommend it highly. It definitely made a difference in the outcome of this painting.

Special Event: An Evening with John Paul Thornton

"Golden Leaves"

Saturday, May 19th 7-9 pm artist John Paul Thornton will be giving a presentation at La Galeria Gitana in San Fernando on the Eastern Aesthetic and Asian Influence in Art, the theme of the current exhibit. This will be about a 40 minute art talk. Then John Paul will do an art walk around the gallery with the attendees in tow and talk about one piece of artwork from each exhibiting artist putting it into a particular aesthetic context. Seating is limited and admission is $5, so call (818) 898-7708 or email the gallery to reserve seats for the presentation. I have five paintings (including "Golden Leaves") in the exhibit which is up through June 15, 2012.
